About Me

I qualified with a Bachelors degree in dietetics at Pretoria University’s medical faculty in 1999 and have built a career as a Specialist Paediatric Dietitian within the health service in the UK and at home in South Africa.

Having spent 8 years gaining experience and skills in the UK, I have been lucky enough to bring back international ‘best practice’ to South Africa and have been working here since 2009.

I am registered with the HPCSA, ADSA and ALLSA

I am dedicated to continuous professional development and since qualifying as a registered dietitian have completed further post graduate training in a variety of areas but particularly in child and infant nutrition. I have completed specialist courses in Paediatric and Neonatal nutrition through the British Dietetics Association and the world renowned Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

I am also a qualified lactation consultant and passionate about helping mothers establish and maintain breastfeeding.

Importantly, I am also a mother to two young children making my approach child-centred and practical.

I work closely with neonatologists, paediatric gastroenterologists and paediatric surgeons managing the nutritional status and growth of their patients.

I write for professional publications and been involved in various research and audit projects as well as presenting some of this work at an international level.

I have also been the nutrition expert for the Pampers institute since 2012.

My successful private practice in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa provides specialist nutritional advice to parents of healthy and sick children.

I work alongside Paediatricians GP’s and other healthcare professionals to enhance the care of children; consulting into private hospitals and from consulting rooms in Durban North and Ballito.

Healthy Plate Healthy Me

Healthy Plate Healthy me is my personal response to the exponentially increasing rates of childhood obesity and other disease of lifestyle.

The ‘healthy plate-healthy me’ concept is a tool to encourage children to eat more healthily and make healthy eating fun. It also guides parents and reminds them to offer balanced, correctly proportioned meals.

It consists of a brightly coloured, animated melamine plate with a child friendly version of the plate model on it. The plate is accompanied by a sturdy hard-page book. The story describes each food group and how each group benefits the body. It is written in a rhyming child-friendly format with colourful illustrations.
